9th January 1863.
on the 23rd Ultimo submitted to this
Grace the Duke of Newcastle, a copy of the
opinion of the Law Officers of the Crown that the Agra and United Service Bank Limited, had the right
at Hong Kong, to the promissory Notes payable to Bearer on demand, which had been received by the Government authorities at that place
in payment of Crown dues, subject to the confirmation by the Home Government; &
to direct that Grace having requested his
consideration on the subject might be made. I had the honor to
communicate
to the Bank's London Office,
a
letter from
the
30th Ultimo transmitting for the information of the Board of
Directors of the Bank a Copy of a
letter from the Honble. Sir Hercules Robinson to Sir W. Rogers Bart dated the 13th Dec. 1862, and a Copy of a letter from Mr. Hamilton to Mr. Broth... dated 13 August 1861, & stating that it was His Grace's intention to
give instructions to the Government of Hong Kong & to the Governors of
